Non-Metallic Components for Sporting Goods

Non-Metallic Components for Sporting Goods

Components in sporting goods, fitness and exercise equipment, outdoor gear, and recreational equipment must withstand heavy use and harsh environmental conditions. Many types of non-metallic materials are used to protect against corrosion and weathering, reduce vibration and noise, and seal and insulate delicate assemblies. High-performance, reliable gaskets, spacers, washers, and more can be stamped from these cost-effective, lightweight materials.

Since 1927, New Process Fibre has worked to improve its manufacturing processes while producing the highest quality components. Our capabilities include stamping, extrusion, and slitting of non-metallic materials including nylon, Teflon, polyethylene, and other thermoplastics.

Learn more about our stamping and fabrication services for the sporting goods, outdoor gear, and fitness equipment industry below.

Extrusion & Slitting Capabilities

While we maintain over 10,000 compound washer dies, we specialize in custom tooling and stampings to meet your requirements.

Services include:

  • Comprehensive Custom Fabrication: We manufacture gaskets, shims, spacers, washers, discs, end lamination pieces, tags, and more for indoor or outdoor use. Additional services include the application of pressure-sensitive adhesives, embossing, and screen printing.
  • Advanced Non-Metallic Stamping and Tooling: We accept customer CAD files or create a file based on your design. With this, we build custom tooling for use with one of our 75 conventional or high-speed presses. Tool-building capabilities include wire EDM processing, multi-cavity tools, and compound and progressive dies. We can accommodate small and large production runs, and provide free maintenance of tooling for the life of your project.
  • Specialized Extrusion and Slitting: We also provide thermoplastic extrusions, in which material is melted and forced through a die to create a uniform shape. Processes include flat and annular die extrusion and plasticating with rollers. Computer-controlled, custom slitting is also available to cut sheets and rolls into manageable sizes for your application.
  • Industry-Leading Quality and Innovation: Our goal is to provide high-quality, cost-effective custom products for the sporting goods industry. We do this through our commitment to continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes and our ISO 9001:2015 quality certification.

Material Expertise

We work with a range of non-metallic materials that provide durability, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability over time. Options include vulcanized fibre and specialized thermoplastics with a variety of properties for different applications from weatherproofing to vibration and noise reduction to padding for bolts and joints. Non-metallic materials are cost-effective and lightweight, and some are available in several colors for visual appeal in certain applications.

Materials include, but are not limited to:

  • ABS
  • Nylon 6, Nylon 6/6, Nylon MDS
  • Acetal
  • Delrin
  • Polycarbonate
  • Polyester film
  • HDPE/LDPE
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyurethane
  • Teflon
  • PVC
  • Rigid and flexible vinyl
  • Plus many more

Applications

Sporting goods, fitness equipment, and outdoor gear get heavy use, and are exposed to UV radiation, changing temperatures, and moisture; therefore, they must be durable and corrosion-resistant. Non-metallic stampings like washers, discs, and gaskets are used for things like:

  • Securing bolts and screws
  • Padding and distributing pressure between painted surfaces
  • Weatherproofing fastening points
  • Reducing vibration in electrically and manually powered cardio machines
  • Reducing operational noise
  • Limiting metal-on-metal wear and tear

Some specific examples of non-metallic stampings in action include:

  • Exercise Equipment: Including washers and gaskets to dampen noise and reduce vibration in powered equipment, washers and spacers for weight rack and bench fasteners, bearing seals for rolling components, spacers or gaskets to preserve paint and finishes on equipment structures
  • Outdoor Gear: Fasteners and fixtures in bicycles, gaskets and washers for golf cart motors and frames, securing and reducing corrosion in play structures
  • ATV Components: Gaskets, washers, and bearing seals for motor components, insulation for electrical systems, vibration reduction
